The first thing people tend to notice about Ben is that many of the dogs he trains look older than him. Although he hears this a lot, I dont think it bothers him too much.
Bens training days began in college when he trained dogs while guiding goose hunts. Perhaps the most famous was his Chocolate lab, Sage. Together the two of them have hunted almost every kind of bird in the west and southwest.
The strength of Hideaway Kennels is Bens experience both in and out of the field. Ben went to college in Colorado and graduated with a degree in Communication (specializing in non-verbal communication, i.e. interaction learning). He minored in Sociology and had an emphasis in Business Management. In the field, Ben has proven himself continuously since the earliest days of his dog career, both guiding successful hunts and winning field trials. He has also given training demonstrations at numerous locations throughout the country. Perhaps you have seen him showing dogs locally for Colorado Gun Dog at the International Sportsmans Show in Denver. As a member of DT Systems, Purina Dog Food, Tracker, and many other popular endorsement organizations. Ben is frequently asked by other professionals for his opinion and advice on dog training.
In any conversation with Ben, there will inevitably be mention of his mentor and true friend, Fred Schulze. Fred was the owner of Southview Kennels located in Longmont, Colorado. Ben trained with Fred for many years. Fred helped in developing the training and breeding methods that Ben still uses to this day. Fred died in the spring of 2002. Passing on the torch to Ben.
